Richard Grisé, a Progressive Conservative MP from Quebec's Chambly riding, was effectively expelled from the PC caucus in April 1989 over personal conduct issues that made his continued presence in the caucus untenable. Grisé had been elected as part of Brian Mulroney's massive 1984 Quebec sweep that delivered an unprecedented 58 of 75 Quebec seats to the Conservatives. His departure was one of several Quebec caucus departures under Mulroney, though others (like Bouchard) were on policy grounds rather than conduct.
Grisé sat as an Independent for barely six weeks before Parliament dissolved for a by-election cycle. He did not seek re-election and his brief tenure as an Independent barely registered in the political record. His case was minor compared to the much more dramatic departures from the Mulroney caucus that would come in 1990 with the formation of the Bloc Québécois.
