Five Quebec Liberal MLAs — Alexandre Chauveau, Edmund James Flynn, Louis Napoléon Fortin, Étienne-Théodore Pâquet, and Ernest Racicot — crossed the floor to the Conservatives in 1879, toppling the Liberal government of Henri-Gustave Joly de Lotbinière.
The Liberal government fell. Flynn later became Premier of Quebec in 1896. This was one of the most consequential floor crossings in Canadian history.
