Maxime Bernier

Bernier narrowly lost the Conservative leadership race to Andrew Scheer (by less than 2%). Bitter about the loss, he left to start his own party - the People's Party of Canada - calling the Conservatives 'intellectually and morally corrupt.'

He lost his own seat in 2019 - a seat he'd held for 12 years. The PPC has never won a single seat in Parliament. He gave up a safe riding and a potential cabinet post for a party that has gone nowhere.
