When the Progressive Conservatives merged with the Canadian Alliance to form today's Conservative Party, Brison refused to go along. He joined the Liberals instead.
He became Minister of Public Works, then President of the Treasury Board - two major cabinet positions. He resigned in 2019 during the SNC-Lavalin controversy (though he wasn't personally accused of wrongdoing).
