Joseph Howe

Howe led the fight against Nova Scotia joining Canada. When that fight was lost, he negotiated better financial terms for Nova Scotia, then joined the government.

He was given a cabinet position (President of the Privy Council), and was later made Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia - the top job in the province. He died in office shortly after.
